Wanju plan – submissions close soon

A public consultation period associated with one of the most significant development proposals the greater Bunbury region will see in the next 40 years, closes next week.

The city of Wanju – to be located opposite Millbridge on the Forrest Highway,  will ultimately accommodate about 50,000 people, 20,000 new houses plus associated commercial infrastructure.

Responses close on Wednesday, July 13 and can be emailed to wanju@planning.wa.gov.au

A draft District Structure Plan produced in partnership by the Shire of Dardanup and WA Department of Planning can be viewed on the Planning page.

Since the public consultation period was opened in April, several key background reports supporting the structure plan have been completed and added to the Wanju website for viewing.

The reports are:

  • Integrated Water Strategy;
  • Alternative Construction Report;
  • Servicing Needs Assessment.

The integrated water strategy sets out opportunities for accommodating the surface water flows across the site in times of high rainfall and to manage, protect and conserve the total water cycle in Wanju and the wider catchment.

The Alternative Construction reports identifies the benefits of, and opportunities for, light-weight construction of residential and commercial buildings within Wanju.

The Servicing Needs Assessment provides some broad detail on the potential infrastructure and servicing required for Wanju and how the contributions from the development could best be developed through a Development Contributions Plan.
